House fire battled in rural De Soto

? Firefighters in Johnson County extinguished a house fire Wednesday in rural De Soto.

Crews arrived at the scene, 8225 Ravenswood Lane, at 1:33 p.m. to find a two-story house a couple of miles east of the city engulfed in flames, according to Mark Billquist, Northwest Consolidated Fire District chief of operations.

“We did a defensive attack at first and knocked the fire down, and then we got into the structure and were able to search and put out the rest of the fire,” he said.

Trucks from Northwest Consolidated, Eudora and Lenexa assisted in putting the fire out. By 3 p.m., the fire was under control.

The house was extensively damaged. No one was in the residence at the time, and no firefighters were injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
