Lansing A 59-year-old child sex offender who escaped from the Lansing Correctional Facility on Wednesday is still on the run.
Gary Leslie Furthmyer escaped from Lansing Correctional Facility overnight Wednesday. He is described as 5'9", 185 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He also goes by Frank Schell.
Corrections department spokesman Jeremy Barclay said Friday law enforcement officials are devoting considerable time and resources to the search for Gary Leslie Furthmyer.
Furthmyer escaped from his minimum security assignment at a steam plant in Lansing on Wednesday.
He escaped the same day that four state inmates broke out of the Ottawa County jail. Three of the four inmates had been recaptured by Friday. Barclay says while that search has garnered more media attention, law enforcement is equally focused on finding Furthmyer.
Furthmyer is serving a six- to 25-year sentence for a 1985 conviction in Sedgwick County for indecent liberties with a child and aggravated failure to appear.

so 27 years ago he was given a 6 to 25 year stint, and he's still incarcerated? Maybe he did the math recently and figured out that he should probably leave.
