A Douglas County judge Monday issued a bench warrant for a 32-year-old Lawrence man who did not show up for court Monday in his aggravated battery and criminal restraint case.
William D. Glover Jr. faces the charges related to an alleged March domestic incident in which a woman was taken to the hospital. Attorneys were scheduled to argue Monday about whether the case should go to trial, but District Judge Sally Pokorny issued the warrant for his arrest when he failed to appear, court officials and prosecutors said. Glover was free on $8,000 bond.
The alleged victim testified last Wednesday and accused Glover of choking her until she felt she would pass out and throwing her against a wall causing her to black out, during an incident March 23 in the 2500 block of Redbud Lane. The woman was taken by a friend to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where police interviewed her.
After the woman testified last week, prosecutors dismissed an aggravated assault charge because they said her testimony did not corroborate a claim that Glover was armed with a knife during the alleged incident.
