— Republican Charlie Roth of Salina has decided against running for another term in the Kansas House.

KSAL-AM reports that Roth made the announcement Monday in a message to friends and supporters. Roth has represented the 71st House District since he took over in 2005 for Carol Beggs, who passed away while in office.

Roth's message was quickly followed Monday by an announcement from J.R. Claeys (klayz) that he intends to run for the 71st District seat. Claeys, who's also from Salina, ran unsuccessfully for the GOP nomination for Kansas secretary of state in 2010.

Claeys had announced in November he planned to run for the Kansas House from the 69th District.

Now there is a guy who has the concerns of his constituents in mind.

November it is the 69th district. Ink isn't even dry on the press release and he's running from the 71st.

Yep, really a servant of the people there...once he figures out who is people are.

Oh, you mean like the Wichita Democrat candidate for the state legislature a few years ago who claimed a boarded-up house established his "residence" in the district he wanted to run in, but actually lived outside the district? Is that the kind of liar you had in mind, hmmm?

The House district map changes to move the 69th to Johnson County. The new redistricting map makes large parts of the 69th the 71st. That's the likely reason for the switcheroo.
