State of Kansas also wins in Mega Millions lottery

? In addition to one of the three winning tickets from last week’s Mega Millions jackpot being sold in Kansas, the state of Kansas will become a winner too.

Ticket holders in Kansas, Maryland and Illinois will share an estimated $656 million prize in the largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history.

The state of Kansas will receive $7.9 million in withholding tax from the jackpot winner who bought the ticket in Kansas, according to the Kansas Lottery.

The holder of that ticket hasn’t come forward yet, so the Kansas Lottery hasn’t released where the ticket was sold except to say it was in northeast Kansas, which includes Douglas County. The store where the ticket was sold will receive a $10,000 bonus after the prize is claimed.

Mega Millions is played in 42 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. Virgin Islands.
