Topeka ? A Topeka man has been sentenced to three consecutive life terms for sexually assaulting a girl.

Christopher L. Waisner was sentenced Friday in Shawnee County District Court. He was convicted earlier on charges of rape of a child younger than 14, aggravated sodomy of a child younger than 14 and aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that Waisner said in court at the sentencing that he is innocent. He was also sentenced to 12 years and 11 months for attempted rape of a child younger than 14.

The girl, now 15, testified during the trial that the sexual abuse occurred when she was 11 and 12 years old.
