Judge hastens briefing over Kansas clinic funding

? A federal judge is fast-tracking a Dodge City clinic’s request to join a challenge by Planned Parenthood to a new Kansas law stripping it of federal funding.

U.S. District Judge J. Thomas Marten on Thursday set a Monday deadline for all responses to be filed to the request by Dodge City Family Planning Clinic.

Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri filed a one-sentence document Friday saying it does not oppose the clinic’s request. The state has said it will oppose the motion, but has not yet filed its response.

The Dodge City clinic wants the court to order Kansas to release federal family-planning funding being withheld under the new law. Lawyers for the clinic say two employees haven’t been paid since July and the clinic faces closing within weeks.
