1st Infantry Division brigade to mark formal return from Iraq

? Soldiers from a 1st Infantry Division brigade will formally uncase their unit’s colors this week to mark the formal return from deployment in Iraq.

The 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team spent the past year as an advise-and-assist task force working with Iraqi security forces in the Kirkuk province in northern Iraq. The brigade still has one battalion in Iraq and three others attached to a brigade from the Army’s 10th Mountain Division in Afghanistan.

A ceremony set for Wednesday on Fort Riley’s Custer Hill parade grounds marks the official return of the originally deployed brigade units.

The brigade will begin preparing for the remaining deployed units to return to the northeast Kansas post and train for future missions.
