Fort Riley soldier, 25, killed in Iraq

November 6, 2011

— A 25-year-old solider with the 1st Infantry Division based at Fort Riley has died from wounds suffered in an enemy attack in Iraq.

The Wichita Eagle reports that First Lt. Dustin Vincent, of Mesquite, Texas, was on his first deployment. He joined the Army in 2009 as an artillery officer.

The Army said Friday that Vincent was killed by small-arms fire in northern Iraq’s Kirkuk Province during a patrol Thursday.

No other casualties were reported from the incident.

Small arms fire means he was killed by an AK or similar type weapon. Most troops in Afghan have died from IED or other explosives. This soldier must have been very close to his attackers and battled them face to face. A hero in my book, as they all are.

I agree just. I pray for his family. Another tragedy of which we've had way too many. God Bless all our troops.
