Air Force, Army generals inducted into Fort Leavenworth Hall of Fame

? An Air Force general who served in six World War II campaigns and a former vice chief of staff of the Army are the newest members of the Fort Leavenworth Hall of Fame.

An induction ceremony takes place Tuesday for the late Air Force Gen. Otto P. Weyland (WEYE’-luhnd) and retired Army Gen. J.H. Binford “Bennie” Peay III.

Gen. George Patton called Weyland the best general in the Army Air Corps — the forerunner of today’s Air Force — during World War II. In 1945, Weyland served as commandant of the Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth.

Peay served two tours in Vietnam and later went on to command the 101st Airborne Division during Operation Desert Storm.
