Shawnee County deputy pleads no contest in confrontation with Topeka officer

? A Shawnee County sheriff’s deputy pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors filed after a confrontation with a Topeka police officer.

After pleading on Thursday, Shawnee County sheriff’s Lt. Scott Askew was fined a total of $320.

Askew was charged after a Jan. 4 confrontation with officer Travis Jepson. Askew was off-duty when he drove his car through an area where a traffic accident occurred. Topeka police say Askew was stopped by police directing traffic and Askew and Jepson argued. Askew was given two tickets and handcuffed, but was not arrested.

Police Chief Ron Miller says there will now be an administrative investigation of a complaint filed against Jepson.

After the incident, Askew’s wife, told The Topeka Capital-Journal that Jepson hit her husband’s car with a flashlight, leaving a dent.
