Union Pacific freight train carrying grain derails in Ellis County

? Union Pacific Railroad is investigating to determine why 13 cars from a freight train derailed in central Kansas.

The train, with 103 cars, was carrying corn when it derailed Sunday afternoon about two miles west of Victoria in Ellis County. No one was injured.

Ellis County sheriff’s deputy Thomas Garner says investigators on the scene saw no obvious reason for the derailment.

Garner told The Hays Daily News that Union Pacific likely would bulldoze the affected area and lay new track.
