Salina to unveil 19 outdoor downtown sculptures

? Downtown Salina is about to have its own outdoor sculpture garden.

Nineteen sculptures chosen after a national competition will be unveiled beginning May 21. The pieces in the SculptureTour Salina project are the works of 10 artists.

The Salina Journal reports Monday that each sculpture will remain through next April, when a new set will be mounted downtown.

Phyll Klima, director of Salina Downtown, Inc., says organizers hope to make the event an annual downtown celebration and include artists from all types of mediums.

Those viewing the sculptures will vote on their favorites. The city will buy the winner and install it in the community.
