Suspect makes first appearance in Parson child’s death case

? A 25-year-old with a history of child abuse allegations made a first court appearance in the death of a 19-month-old Parsons child.

The suspect appeared Monday in Labette County Court and wept while hearing the charges: murder, child abuse and aggravated sodomy.

The suspect was arrested last week in the death of the Parsons child. The child’s name and how the child died has not been released. Prosecutors believe the child was sexually abused before being killed.

KOAM-TV reports that as a minor, the suspect was convicted twice of sexually assaulting young girls. The suspect was accused last year of sexually assaulting a previous girlfriend’s child, but was not charged.

Bond was set at $1 million and the suspect’s next hearing is scheduled for April 11.
