Topeka woman wants to withdraw plea in elderly man’s death

? A Topeka woman who pleaded no contest in the death of an elderly man wants to withdraw her plea.

Thirty-eight-year-old Angel Joslin was to be sentenced Thursday in the Oct. 6 death of 79-year-old Jack Stanley. He died from blunt force trauma and suffocation at his apartment.

Joslin pleaded no contest in January to voluntary manslaughter, aggravated arson and other charges.

Her attorney, Mark Bennett, told a Shawnee County judge Thursday that Joslin wanted to withdraw her plea. He recently became Joslin’s attorney and asked for 30 to 45 days to research whether she has a valid reason to withdraw the plea.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that an April 29 hearing date was scheduled to determine whether the plea will be withdrawn or for a sentencing.
