Charges filed against suspect in Hutchinson standoff

? A man who authorities say used his infant daughter and a stepsister as shields during a standoff with police is facing 13 charges.

Prosecutors on Thursday charged 28-year-old Deron McCoy Jr. of Wichita with two counts of kidnapping and other charges. He was arrested Tuesday after a five-hour standoff at a Hutchinson motel.

Police were called to the motel after a custody dispute erupted when the mother of his 7-month-old daughter came to pick up the girl. Police say he used the infant and a stepsister as a shield before surrendering.

The Hutchinson News reports that McCoy remains in the Reno County jail on $500,000 bond. Online court records do not indicate if he has an attorney.
