Missouri truck stop holdup nets prison time for Kansas man

March 15, 2011

— A northeast Kansas man has been ordered to serve 27 years in prison for holding up a central Missouri truck stop at the point of a BB gun.

Jerry Thomas Martin, of Shawnee, pleaded guilty in February to first-degree robbery, armed criminal action and resisting arrest.

The Marshall News-Democrat reports Martin was sentenced Monday in Saline County Circuit Court to 27 years each on the robbery and armed criminal action charges and four years for resisting arrest. Judge Dennis Rolf ordered the sentences to run concurrently.

Prosecutors said Martin entered Betty's Truck Stop, on Interstate 70 in Sweet Springs, around 1 a.m. Jan. 7 with a handgun and demanded money. He made off with an estimated $800 to $900 cash. The weapon turned out to be a BB gun.
