Topeka ? The March meeting of the State Board of Education is reduced to one day next week so that members can make their annual visits to the state schools for the blind and deaf.

Members will conduct their monthly meeting March 7 in Topeka. The agenda includes a discussion of the legislative session and budget outlooks for the coming school year.

The schools for the blind and deaf are located in Johnson County. Board members will travel to each campus to visit with teachers, administrators and students about academic progress. The state board serves as the school board for both campuses.

Legislators have been considering consolidating the campuses to save money. Proposals have yet to be approved by either chamber in the Statehouse.
