DA accuses Johnson County racing school of ‘unconscionable acts’

? The Johnson County District Attorney’s Office has filed an action under the Kansas Consumer Protection Act against The Racing Experience Inc. and Kelley Bussey of Shawnee.

In the action, the District Attorney’s Office alleges the defendants engaged in deceptive acts in connection with the sale and fulfillment of racing packages where consumers purchased the opportunity to attend a racing school and then drive a racecar on a speedway track. The District Attorney’s Office alleges numerous consumers have been unable to utilize their racing packages and have been unable to obtain refunds.

The District Attorney’s Office has requested the defendants be ordered to pay full restitution to consumers as well as $10,000 in civil fines and penalties for each violation of the Kansas Consumer Protection Act.

Anyone who has recently purchased any racing packages from The Racing Experience is asked to contact the Johnson County District Attorney’s Consumer Hotline at 913-715-3003.

A link on the company’s website notes The Racing Experience is no longer accepting orders for future events and is no longer in business as of Nov. 1, 2010.
