Man sentenced to 10 years for scheming to poison Lenexa restaurant’s salsa

? A 32-year-old suburban Kansas City man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for a scheme to poison salsa at a Mexican restaurant.

Arnoldo Bazan of Shawnee, Kan., was sentenced Monday. He pleaded guilty in March to conspiracy to tamper with a consumer product.

Bazan admitted he was angry about losing his job in June 2009 at Mi Ranchito in Olathe, Kan., when he had his wife, Yini De La Torre, put pesticide in the salsa at a Mi Ranchito where she worked in nearby Lenexa.

The first incident happened Aug. 11, 2009, when 12 diners got became ill after eating lunch. The second incident was Aug. 30, 2009, when 36 patrons became ill at dinner.

She was sentenced to more than seven years for her role.
