Garden City businessman accused of hiding camera in bathroom

? A former western Kansas school board member has been charged with hiding a camcorder in the women’s bathroom at a water conditioning business he owns.

The Garden City Telegram reports 56-year-old John Scheopner was arrested last week on four counts of use of a concealed camcorder to eavesdrop and two counts of intimidating witnesses.

A police spokesman says Scheopner is accused of spying on a 53-year-old Garden City woman, 28-year-old Lakin woman and 32-year-old Garden City woman in the women’s bathroom at Scheopner’s Water Conditioning on April 30.

Scheopner served on the Garden City School Board for 14 years, including a stint as vice president, before he resigned in late May.

A message left with Scheopner’s attorney Monday morning was not immediately returned.
