Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt hires former federal prosecutor Jackie Williams

June 23, 2011

— A former federal prosecutor is joining Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt's office in its Consumer Protection Division.

Schmidt says Jackie Williams will begin working as an assistant attorney general in July. Williams currently is Topeka's city attorney.

Williams served 23 years as a federal prosecutor in Kansas, based mainly in Wichita. He was the U.S. attorney for Kansas from 1996 to 2001, later teaching at Wichita State University. He became Topeka city attorney in 2008.

Schmidt says he appointed Williams because of his experience, calling Williams one of the state's most respected prosecutors.

Wait a this the same city attorney that declined to prosecute the city employees who stole city property and sold it for profit? You know..that huge stink that headlined the news in Topeka for months?

Great hire Derek!
