Topeka A former federal prosecutor is joining Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt's office in its Consumer Protection Division.
Schmidt says Jackie Williams will begin working as an assistant attorney general in July. Williams currently is Topeka's city attorney.
Williams served 23 years as a federal prosecutor in Kansas, based mainly in Wichita. He was the U.S. attorney for Kansas from 1996 to 2001, later teaching at Wichita State University. He became Topeka city attorney in 2008.
Schmidt says he appointed Williams because of his experience, calling Williams one of the state's most respected prosecutors.
