Heat drives people underground, to Hutchinson salt museum

? The excessive heat is driving some people underground in Hutchinson.

Admissions to the Kansas Underground Salt Museum set a record for one day on Saturday.

The museum says 655 visited the museum Saturday, breaking the old single-day record of 647 visitors on July 2009.

Linda Schmitt, executive director of the Reno County Historical Society attributed some of the record to people getting out of the heat. The museum is a constant 70 degrees.

The Hutchinson News reports that more than 500 people have visited the museum every Saturday this month.
