— An Olathe man who shot his wife to death in a driveway in Olathe will serve 50 years in prison with no chance of parole.

Terry Hayes was sentenced Tuesday in the August, 2010 death of 28-year-old Tiffani Hayes. He was sentenced to another 13 months for threatening his wife's friend with a gun.

The 39-year-old Hayes was convicted in April of premeditated first-degree murder and aggravated assault.

The Kansas City Star reported that the shooting occurred as Tiffani Hayes was retrieving some of her possessions from her husband's truck. Prosecutors said Hayes had threatened his estranged wife for weeks before the shooting.

Hayes' attorney contended that he was depressed and suicidal at the time of the shooting and should not have received the 'hard 50' sentence.

If he was suicidal shouldn't he have aimed the gun the other way? 50 years seems more then fair for taking a life. Thoughts and prayers for the victims family.
