Ford County bans fireworks in rural areas because of dry conditions

? The Ford County Commission says anyone wanting to shoot off fireworks this year is going to have to wait until it lifts a ban for rural areas.

The commission voted 3-0 Thursday to ban fireworks until at least its next meeting on July 13. The Dodge City Globe reports vendors can still sell fireworks, but buyers won’t be able to shoot them until the ban is lifted.

That follows a move by the Dodge City Commission to ban fireworks in the city limits, including the traditional community fireworks display.

Ford County normally allows fireworks all year long as long as people are on their own property or have permission from the property owner.

Drought and the city’s decision to ban fireworks prompted county officials to change that policy.
