Patriot Flag honoring 9/11 responders arriving in Fort Scott for Kansas’ 150th birthday
Fort Scott ? Fort Scott’s celebration of Kansas’ 150th birthday will include a special flag this month.
The 30-by-58-foot Patriot Flag, which weighs 60 pounds, will be displayed at the Fort Scott National Historic Site on Jan. 29-30, during the fort’s 150th anniversary celebration.
The Fort Scott Tribune reported Tuesday that the flag is on a tour to be flown in all 50 states. It is a tribute to the armed forces and first responders who helped during the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. It will eventually be raised in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania on the 10th anniversary of the attacks.
Fort Scott Fire Department Chief Paul Ballou says the group coordinating the tour thought the celebration would be a good chance to fly the flag in Kansas.
