A rural Tonganoxie man was shot Thursday in Kansas City, Kan., while he was cleaning a rental property.

Bradley Willis, 24, of rural Tonganoxie, said Friday that his brother, Jake Willis, 18, Tonganoxie, and his brother’s friend, Zach Langston, also 18, were helping him clean his rental property about 5 p.m. Thursday when a former tenant arrived at the residence.

An argument ensued, and the man threatened to get a gun and return to the residence in the 4500 block of Rowland. At that point, Bradley Willis called 911 and the man left, he said.

About 10 minutes later, the former tenant returned and started shooting from the back seat of a moving vehicle, Bradley Willis said.

Bradley Willis was in the yard when the shots were fired.

“And then I was just running zig-zag,” Willis said, noting that he was yelling to his brother and his brother’s friend, who were still inside the single-story house, to take cover.

A bullet hit Langston, damaging his liver, lung and spleen, Bradley Willis said.

Langston was recovering Friday at an area hospital.

A Kansas City, Kan., police spokesperson said the investigation is ongoing.
