January 5, 2011

— The Republican Party chairman in Kansas’ 1st Congressional District is seeking a seat on the Republican National Committee.

Longtime GOP activist Randy Duncan, of Salina, announced his candidacy on Tuesday. Two others have also declared for the seat.

The GOP State Committee plans to decide Jan. 29 who will represent Kansas on the RNC. Incumbent Mike Pompeo is stepping down after being elected to the U.S. House in the 4th Congressional District.

Also running for the national committee seat is former congressman Todd Tiahrt (TEE’-hart), who ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Senate last year. The other declared candidate is Kris Van Meteren, a conservative activist from Ozawkie whose company handles mailings for GOP campaigns.
