South Hutchinson considering incentives for potential home buyers

? South Hutchinson officials are considering offering incentives to persuade people to live in single-family homes in their city.

The South Hutchinson City Council voted Monday night to ask city staff to develop a way to pay city utilities for homebuyers for a set period of time. City Administrator Matt Stiles will present a formal plan March 7.

Stiles say the credit would be offered on the city’s base rate for water and sewer service. The Hutchinson Daily News reports that the minimum cost for water is currently $5.91 per month and the sewer minimum is $28 monthly, so a year’s discount would be just over $400.

The proposal calls for a six-month credit for buying an existing single-family home or a two-year credit for buying a new home.
