Hutchinson inmate sentenced for 2009 jail escape

? A 39-year-old inmate has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for a 2009 escape from the Hutchinson Correctional Facility.

The Hutchinson News reported that Steve Genton of Olathe was sentenced Thursday. He pleaded guilty in October to a single count of aggravated escape from custody, stemming from the Sept. 12, 2009, escape. He was captured two days later in Hutchinson.

Genton had been serving time for two counts of rape of a child under the age of 14, one count of rape and two counts of furnishing alcohol to a minor.

Authorities said Genton escaped the jail by using a ladder to climb over the razor wire-topped fence.
