Gov. Sam Brownback proclaims Jordy Nelson Day in Kansas

? Honors keep piling up for Green Bay Packer Jordy Nelson in the wake of his Super Bowl performance.

The Riley County native and walk-on at Kansas State University was honored Thursday by Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback, who proclaimed it “Jordy Nelson Day” in Kansas.

Brownback congratulated Nelson for his record-setting game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, won by the Packers 31-25. Brownback — a former high school quarterback and Kansas State alum — threw Nelson a football that Nelson then signed for the governor.

Nelson caught nine passes for 140 yards and a touchdown in the Super Bowl.

The third-year receiver earned a starting spot for Bill Snyder at Kansas State, eventually earning All-America and Big 12 honors. The Packers drafted Nelson in the second round in 2008.
