KBI will investigate theft of scrap iron in Topeka
Topeka ? The Kansas Bureau of Investigation will join an investigation into the theft of scrap metal by four Topeka water division employees.
KBI director Robert Blecha says the Kansas Attorney General’s Office asked the bureau to work with Topeka police on the case.
Topeka officials say the four employees took scrap iron pipe from a city work site in September and sold it. The employees told the city they were paid $400, but city officials are questioning if that amount.
The Topeka Capital-Journal reported Wednesday that the foreman involved in the theft retired and the other three employees were disciplined but will be allowed to keep their jobs while the investigation is conducted.
