Kansas Star Casino certified to open Dec. 26

? State gambling regulators have given final approval for the Kansas Star Casino to open for business Dec. 26.

The state-owned casino is located in Mulvane, about 15 miles south of Wichita.

The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission said Monday the casino passed final checks during a controlled demonstration last week involving gambling with real money. Regulators looked at the casino’s gambling and security controls to see that it was fit to open.

Kansas Star is opening in a building that eventually will become its 100,000-square-foot equestrian center. The permanent facility is under construction.

Dodge City’s Boot Hill Casino and Resort was the first state-owned casino to open in Kansas. The third — Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kan. — is expected to open next year.
