Ag producers teaching kids about farming

? Farmers and ranchers in the Salina area are concerned that the younger generation knows very little about how food gets on the table.

So they’ve stepped up efforts to educate elementary students, by either bringing children to farms to visit, or taking a cow, plants or seeds to Salina schools.

Pete Meagher is a farmer-rancher from eastern Saline County who teaches woodworking at Salina Central High School.

Meagher says if the younger generation doesn’t understand the importance of farming, the agriculture industry could be in jeopardy.
