"depicting the Israeli occupation of Gaza."

It must be some pretty old artworks they're showing. For those who have not been reading the news, Israel unilaterally disengaged from the Gaza Strip in 2005.

So, any artwork you'll seeing there will be at least 6 or 7 years old.

But it is true that didn't satisfy Hamas, so they kept on shooting missiles, and therefore they are still fighting a war there.

You're right-- the better term would the siege of Gaza.

And I'm sure that the 1400 mostly civilian Gazans that Israel killed (100's of them children) the last time they invaded couldn't possibly have had any effect on those children who survived, but had to watch.

I have an idea! Maybe the people in Gaza could quit shooting rockets at Israel, and come to some sort of peace agreement!

Ron Holzwarth 4 years, 9 months ago

They really should have a matching exhibit from kindergartners in Israel who never know when a Qassam rocket might come crashing through the school window.

Or, a really sweet one would be artworks done by the children and other very young relatives of people who have been killed by suicide bombers.

That would be so touching,,,

Maybe there will be a droll little drawing of a mentally challenged cousin being outfitted in a suicide vest by the noble neighborhood jihadists. Or three generations of your family being used by the Saudis and the Jordanians as propaganda tools. Or a car swarm. Whatever...

Nope-- just pictures of the of Israeli policy in action-- kill 'em off while they're still in diapers.

The really serious problem is that the children in the Middle East are the ones that are having to deal with the results of the adult's childish behavior.

If they were all to be put on the playground together, I think they would all get along much better than the adults do.

The children have many points of view other than Hamas or the Palestinian Occupation. Let them speak for themselves!

They're shooting so many rockets from the Gaza Strip that it's difficult to keep up.

And now, they're so commonplace that they don't even make the news.

That makes 6 today.

It would be interesting to know exactly how many rockets are going to be fired into Israel while the "Gaza children’s art exhibit" is on display in Wichita, and for a sign to be posted at the entrance to announce how many rockets have been fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel since the exhibit began.

Of course, the number of rockets that have been fired would need to be updated at least once a day, sometimes more.

Does anyone ever wonder why Israel is trying to get them to stop? Certainly not some people here in the United States, judging by a couple of the comments above. So many seem to think that Israel should just keep on being shot at, bombed, having people killed and kidnapped, and then never doing anything about it.

Then, when they go in with plenty of warning that they are going to do so, it is called an "occupation of Gaza."

What's happening right now is a huge increase in the number of rockets fired into Israel. Until quite recently lately, it was down to only 2 or 3 a week, and now at least 9 in only the last two days.

Big trouble may be brewing there, or else the people in the Gaza Strip are celebrating "the Gaza children’s art exhibit in Wichita" by shooting even more rockets at Israel.

It is absolutely amazing that this is receiving almost no press coverage at all.

Except right here, on the LJWorld.com website.

The rocket attacks are certainly reprehensible. But no matter how much you spam this website about them, they don't justify the much more deadly and oppressive actions of Israel against Palestinians-- particularly that which is very intentionally directed against the hundreds of thousands of kids whose artwork is the subject of this article.

So, how about condemning the violence on all sides?

Ron Holzwarth 4 years, 9 months ago

It is not spam. I am reporting facts that are rarely presented in the news media in the United States. Very few seem to know very much about what Israelis have to live with in their daily lives. And if they ever do anything to try to stop it, they are the ones that get the blame.

And, I can't condemn the action on both sides, because Israel is not doing anything at all about it, not for the moment at least.

The rocket squads in the Gaza Strip have certainly been very busy in these last two days. That is not a good sign at all, because when there is an uptick in violence like this, it usually presages further violence in the future.

Ron Holzwarth 4 years, 9 months ago

"very intentionally directed against the hundreds of thousands of kids"

That is total fantasy.

Operation Cast Lead (2008 - 2009) was quite effective in slowing down the rocket attacks.

Afterwards, Hamas apparently has been making much more of a political attempt than a violent one of reaching its goal of forming a Palestinian state, realizing that violent attempts were definitely not going to be successful, and it was very obvious that such methods would be very costly for everyone in the Gaza Strip. Hamas has been behind very few, if any, of the rocket fire since Operation Cast Lead.

But, Hamas does not have complete control, there are a few splinter groups that did not adhere to the Hamas policy of halting the rocket fire. So, it continued at a much slower rate, to only about 2 or 3 a week. That is certainly not enough for Israel to conduct a campaign to stop it, it took over 1,000 rockets before Operation Cast Lead was conducted.

This very recent upswing from only 2 or 3 a week to how many (You'll have to start counting above, those were all in only the last 2 days), is certainly an alarming situation.

It can mean only one thing. Hamas, which has done a somewhat responsible job of keeping control of the situation by keeping the splinter groups quiet, is now losing control.

And, when a government loses control of its population, disaster is not far behind.

And remember, you read about it here on LJWorld.com first. This new situation is not being covered at all in any other media that I am aware of.

Ron Holzwarth 4 years, 9 months ago

Except, it is reported in the Qassam rocket notifications that I subscribe to. It's amazing that the Western media doesn't seem to be at all interested in reporting this very recent huge upswing in violence emanating from the Gaza Strip.

But, the Associated Press certainly did cover the "Gaza children’s art exhibit."
