Lawrence woman, 26, accused of hitting 19-year-old boyfriend with car

Lawrence police arrested a 26-year-old Lawrence woman early Tuesday morning, accusing her of hitting her 19-year-old boyfriend with a vehicle and then threatening him with a knife.

But Douglas County prosecutors later Tuesday only charged Diane M. Cheesman with aggravated battery related to the alleged incident with the vehicle.

Sgt. Matt Sarna, a police spokesman, said officers were called just after midnight to the 2500 block of Crestline Place about a disturbance, and officers arrested Cheesman after she was accused of striking her boyfriend with a vehicle and dragging him several feet. Sarna said the argument continued later in the residence where she allegedly threatened him with a knife. The boyfriend had a minor injury to his arm and declined medical attention. Officers recovered a knife, Sarna said.

A judge Tuesday afternoon set Cheesman’s bond at $2,500 and scheduled her next court date for Monday.
