Prosecutors want to try 14-year-old as adult in death of his Manhattan High School classmate

? Riley County officials are asking to try a 14-year-old suspect as an adult in the death of one of his classmates.

The Manhattan High School student is charged with first-degree murder of 14-year-old Tyler Dowling. His body was found in a field April 13, and the suspect was arrested the following day.

Riley County attorney Barry Wilkerson asked during a hearing Wednesday to try the suspect as an adult. The Manhattan Mercury reports that decision will not be made until a two-day certification hearing before Judge David Stutzman on Sept. 22-23.

The suspect is being held at the Geary County Juvenile Detention Facility.
