Johnson County man convicted of wife’s murder

? A Johnson County man faces life in prison for shooting his wife to death and leaving her dead on an Olathe driveway.

A jury convicted Terry Hayes Thursday of premeditated first-degree murder in the Aug.5 death of 28-year-old Tiffani Hayes. He was also found guilty of aggravated assault for threatening his wife’s friend with a gun.

Hayes’ attorneys had sought a second-degree murder conviction, saying the shooting was not premeditated.

The sentence for the premeditated murder is life with no parole for at least 25 years. Prosecutors might argue for 50 years without parole.

The Kansas City Star reports that prosecutors say Hayes lured his estranged wife to the Olathe home. He told his three children not to go outside, then met his wife outside, shot her and drove away.
