Texas sex offender captured in Topeka

? A 41-year-old sought in Texas for more than a decade has been captured in Topeka.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Service made the arrest Wednesday while the suspect was working at a construction site.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reported Friday that the suspect is listed on the Texas Most Wanted Sex Offender list and was being held in the Shawnee County Jail without bond. The suspect’s next court appearance is Wednesday in Shawnee County District Court.

The suspect was last seen 11 years ago in El Paso, Texas, shortly after being convicted on two counts of indecency with a child in 1999.

Officials said the El Paso Sheriff’s Office would seek extradition back to Texas.

Authorities said the suspect had been living and working in Topeka under an assumed name.
