Topeka lawyer charged in fatal traffic accident involving bicyclist

? A 40-year-old Topeka lawyer has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in a traffic accident that killed a bicyclist.

Marc A. Schultz has also been charged in Shawnee County District Court with driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of a fatal accident. The Topeka Capital-Journal reported that the charges were filed Monday. His bond is $150,000.

The charges are tied to the death of 55-year-old Timothy Roberts, who died Sept. 12 after he was hit by a car as he was riding his bike. Authorities said Schultz’s son was also in the car when the accident occurred.

Shawnee County District Court records show that Schultz also had DUIs from 1989 and 2000.

Roberts was a financial planner, and a Marine veteran who served during the Vietnam War.
