Kansas prison head reviews security changes at Topeka Correctional Facility

? Kansas Department of Corrections Secretary Ray Roberts says the agency has put new policies, procedures and equipment in place to improve oversight at the Topeka Correctional Facility.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that Roberts has completed a review of the facility after sex scandals involving corrections officers and women inmates.

Roberts says more than 100 new cameras are in place and training standards were changed to reduce the potential for sexual abuse.

Gov. Sam Brownback ordered Roberts to conduct the review when he was appointed in January.

The Capital-Journal in 2009 and 2010 reported on several instances of illegal contact between inmates and corrections officers. A former prison plumbing instructor and a prison guard were convicted of felony sexual offenses.
