Historic B-17 to visit Great Bend for air event

? A restored World War II B-17 bomber will stop over in Great Bend as part of the Great Bend Municipal Airport Air Festival and Fly-In later this month.

The bomber, called Sentimental Journey, is from the Arizona Wing of the Commemorative Air Force. The event is scheduled for Sept. 17-19.

Airport manager Martin Miller said that the B-17 coming to the event is one of the few remaining B-17s still operating. He said out of more than 12,000 B-17s built, there are only about 10 restored and airworthy examples left.

The B-17, as well as a C-45 and a C-47, will be available for flights and tours during the event.
