Bands help to raise money for feral cats

? Several bands from Missouri and Kansas are gathering in Hays this weekend to raise money for a program that spays and neuters feral cats.

Sixteen bands will be performing Saturday at Fort Hays State University in the Katze II music festival. Organizers say last year’s event raised about $1,000 for the FHSU Cat Program, and this year they’re hoping to double that amount.

So far, the FHSU Cat Program, a subsidiary group of Action for Animals, has helped spay and neuter 13 cats through its trap-neuter-return program.

The Hays Daily News reports that trap-neuter-return is a method of reducing feral cat populations by catching the cats, spaying or neutering and vaccinating them, and then releasing them where they were captured.
