Lawrence lawyer among those applying for Kansas Supreme Court vacancy
Topeka ? Thirteen people have applied for a vacancy on the Kansas Supreme Court, including Cynthia Grimes of Lawrence.
The Supreme Court Nominating Commission will interview applicants for the position on Sept. 27-28 and will submit three names to Gov. Mark Parkinson who will make the appointment.
Grimes is a 1984 Kansas University law school grad whose practice area is bankruptcy and creditor/debtor rights.
The vacancy on the seven-member court was created by the retirement of former Chief Justice Robert Davis. Davis died last month just a day after he announced his retirement.

- Michael Buser, a judge from Overland Park
- Nancy Caplinger, a judge from Topeka
- Jeffery Carmichael, a lawyer from Valley Center
- Robert Frederick, a judge from Lakin
- Jeffry Jack, a judge from Parsons
- Donald Jarrett, a lawyer from Leawood
- Thomas Malone, a judge from Topeka
- Robb Rumsey, a judge from Wichita
- Kim Schroeder, a judge from Hugoton
- Steven Smith, a lawyer from Wichita
- Merlin Wheeler, a judge from Emporia.
