Oklahoma City ? A Kansas-based energy company is planning to build a 125-megawatt wind farm in Kiowa and Washita counties in western Oklahoma.

TradeWind Energy LLC says it’s entered into a long-term energy purchase agreement with Anadarko-based Western Farmers Electric Cooperative. The co-op will buy power generated by the wind farm.

Lenexa, Kan.-based TradeWind Energy says the Rocky Ridge Wind Project will include 75 wind turbines built on 11,000 acres of leased land. Plans call for construction to start within six months and the farm to be open by January 2012.

Western Farmers CEO Gary Roulet says the addition of power from Rocky Ridge will mean about 15 percent of the co-op’s annual electricity production will come from wind power.
