A 32-year-old McLouth woman was taken to Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., Monday afternoon after a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 24 about 3 miles west of Basehor.

According to a Kansas Highway Patrol report, Audri J. Muff of McLouth entered the highway in her 2005 Scion from 178th Street and was struck in the rear by a westbound 1993 Jeep Wrangler, driven by 18-year-old Dakotah D. Cline, of McLouth. The crash happened about 3 p.m.

Muff was taken to KU Hospital, and Vern C. Bartlett IV, also 32 from McLouth, a passenger in the Scion, suffered a possible injury. Cline was not injured. All three people involved wore their seat belts.

Sounds like she pulled out in front of the Wrangler and it didn't have time to stop. I frequently have to drive some of these rural highways and get so sick of the (pick whatever applies--ignorant? arrogant? clueless? depth-perception-challenged?) people who slowly roll out of a side street or business lot, calmly assuming that ongoing highway-speed traffic will (and should have to) just stop for them.

Sounds like one of these people just got nailed--very unfortunate for the Wrangler driver, though. Glad no one was killed! Certainly would not want a stupid move to receive a death sentence, but (if I'm reading this accident right and this IS what happened) I hope the McLouth woman now realizes that it's better to yield right-of-way to highway traffic and wait that additional 5 or 10 seconds for the oncoming vehicle to pass before pulling out there on the road. Wish others would learn from her mistake as well.

I'm more than ready to retract my comments if this is not what happened, of course! I'm just going by the information available in this article. And it's surprising there are not more accidents of this nature, given how many people fail to yield before pulling onto county highways--and then fail to get quickly up to traveling speed!

Well, maybe you should start apologizing then. Because that is not what happened. Isn't it funny how there is so many nosey ppl in this world and just dying to comment on things that have nothing to do with them. Lol....anyways I'm not going to sit here and explain myself to you because it's none of your business as I said before and besides that it was a very traumatic experience for both myself and husband. He had just had his hip replaced like a week before that. And also for the newspapers information the reason there was no Audri Muff at KU Hospital was because my name isn't Audri Muff, it's Audri Bartlett. Besides that, I don't think they could provide you with that information anyway because of the HIPPA laws. Ty...and thank you so much Ms. PyWacket (whatever..lol)....for being so compasionate.

Nothing good comes from reading the comments on these forums by anyone involved in or family members of people in the articles on here. My advice is to stay away, it will only lead to anger/frustration/etc.
