KDOT to give update on planned BNSF transportation facility near Edgerton

? Kansas officials will give an update next week on a project to bring railroad and surface transportation jobs to Johnson County.

Monday’s meeting in Overland Park will focus on plans by Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway for an intermodal transportation facility near Edgerton. A new rail-truck shipping center is planned on a 443-acre site, with a separate business park on 557 acres nearby.

Gov. Mark Parkinson and state Transportation Secretary Deb Miller are scheduled to speak at the meeting.

Kansas legislators have approved an incentive package for the project, which will involve more than $500 million in private investment.
