Benton man sentenced in 2004 death

? A southern Kansas man has been sentenced to nearly 14 years in prison for the death of a woman he met through their sons’ Boy Scout troop.

Fifty-six-year-old Bill Moore was sentenced Monday to 13 years and nine months in prison for the 2004 death of 43-year-old Carol Mould of Benton.

Moore pleaded guilty in March to killing Mould, whose body was found in her burning home on Sept. 22, 2004.

Moore said at his sentencing Monday that he was not responsible for Mould’s death and confessed only because he had a nervous breakdown.

But prosecutors said Moore knew details about the murder that only the suspect would know.

Mould’s death was a mystery until last May, when emergency responders on a call to Moore’s home said he confessed that he killed her.
