Kan. National Guard troops off to Africa

? A deployment ceremony takes place next week for about 560 Kansas Army National Guard soldiers heading for a year-long mission in the Horn of Africa.

Gov. Mark Parkinson and Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting, the state’s adjutant general, are scheduled to speak at Monday’s event in Salina.

KSAL-AM reports that the deploying troops have been training at the Great Plains Joint Regional Training Center in Salina. They’re from the 2nd Combined Arms Battalion, 137th Infantry, with headquarters in Kansas City with units in Wichita, Lawrence, Lenexa, Emporia and Manhattan.
