Senate poised to debate rewrite of state’s abortion laws

? Kansas legislators are considering a proposal to rewrite state laws dealing with late-term abortions.

Senators expected Tuesday to debate a proposal drafted by negotiators from their chamber and the House.

Approval in the Senate would set up a vote in the House that could send the measure to Gov. Mark Parkinson.

The bill would require doctors to include more detailed information in reports to the state about the late-term abortions they perform.

Lawmakers want doctors to provide the exact medical diagnosis that justifies such a procedure. Kansas law limits when late-term abortions can be performed.

The bill also would allow lawsuits against doctors if female — or her family — has evidence that a late-term abortion violated Kansas law.
